Biography

Lauren has a BA (hons) in Fine Art from Loughborough University and a  Masters Degree in Children’s book illustration from Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University.

Lauren works as a freelance Artist/Illustrator for over a decade and also with Museums, Galleries, Schools and Youth Organisations providing workshops as well as her own exhibitions and taking on commissions.

A reoccurring subject matter in her work has often been autobiographical while exploring the perception of time and finding different ways to represent it. The following quotation from Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy has been central to her work in the past and continues to resonate:

“It has been said, ‘time heals all wounds.’ I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, (protecting its sanity), covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But, it is never gone.”

Lauren’s work also often draws on flora and fauna as inspiration.
In 2013 she produced a body of work on Flight which was exhibited at London Luton airport.

Lauren continue to develop her painting, drawing and illustration skills, working on her own storybook projects.

A big part of Lauren’s practice has always been the process of making… dripping, pouring and layering paint, manipulating it in other ways as well as with a paintbrush to create the interwoven details and forms.

“I am constantly working to better skills and ideas to be the best artist I can be.”

Creativity comes in many different forms and Lauren comes from a creative family of artists and engineers. Her sister is the MD at Mysterious Designs Ltd – CAD Specialising Mechanical Engineering Services.
